Why not be a little adventurous, and discover a local indian-foods market; if there isn't one in your town, maybe there's one in the next town over, or the one next to that. Why? Because you can buy this same exact item there for about $1.00, not $8.00; that's injustice. Someone's trying to create an empire here and we can't let that happen. So here's what you do. Get on your browser and enter something like "common indian cooking spices" or " basics of indian cuisine". You'll see all sorts of spices listed: cumin, mustard seed, cardamom, etc. Write down a few. Now, when you discover the indian spice market, your trip will be worthwhile, since you're coming back with the necessary spices to learn basic indian cooking; not just a bag of cinnamon sticks. You should find good prices on all the spices there. Pick a recipe, give it a shot, and open up those spices. If you have empty glass condiment jars handy, it's a convenient way to store them. Just cut the front label off from the spice bags, tape it to the jar, insert remaining spice and viola, you're a chef. Getting ripped off 800% on a bag of cinnamon sticks is one thing, but learning about a new culture and its cuisine? Priceless.
