Pecans are the fruit of a species of hickory tree native to North America. The Pecan was a staple of the Native American diet prior to the arrival of the first European settlers. Pecans are a good source for a number of nutrients, including zinc and magnesium. They are also a good source of fiber. From the FDA's website: "Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, such as Pecans as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.* Serving Size: 1/3 cup (28 g) Other Ingredients: Raw Pecans.
