2004 Green Laofu Old Tree Beeng Cha Tea Leaves - Gournet Pu-erh Teas
The 2004 Green Laofu Old Tree Beeng Cha is made from old wild tea leaves and produced in the Six Famous Tea Mountains Factory. The tea comes with a special paper insert from the factory identifying its year and place of production. Each cake is made from raw leaves and will age spectacularly over time into a top grade cake. As the leaves age, they will mellow out and astringency will decrease, but in the meantime you can counterbalance the green taste by making sure you do not over-steep. Yields several brews if prepared gongfu style. Each cake is 350 grams.

Pu-erh teas are aged before they are consumed, unlike other teas which are meant to be consumed shortly after production. Pu-erh teas are at least 1-4 years old, but can also be aged for more than 50 years! Over this time, Pu-erh teas ferment, which leads to their earthy flavor, as opposed to the flavor of oolong or black teas, which comes from oxidation. Pu-erh teas are unique among tea varieties because they do not lose qualities after a year or two, but rather gain in value, and are classified by connoisseurs by year of production.
