Most valued Darjeeling tea gardens are located along the sloping hills and valleys of the Himalayan Mountains in Northern India. The high altitude ranging in elevation between 3000 and 6500 ft - makes the tea leaves special. Here, the tea makers' art is said to be comparable with the art of wine making. Known as the Champagne of tea", when properly brewed it yields a thin-bodied, light-colored liquor with a floral aroma a tinge of astringent tannic characteristics, and a musky spiciness often referred to by tea connoisseurs as "muscatel." ***1st Flush is harvested in mid-March following spring rains, it has a gentle and very light color and aroma. ***2nd Flush is harvested in June and produces an amber and more astringent cup. ***Autumnal Flush is harvested in the autumn after the rainy season, and has a somewhat less delicate flavour and less spicy tones. --
The Puttabong Tea Garden is a census town in Darjeeling district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Pattabong Tea Garden or Puttabong Tea Garden is a tea-estate within the urban agglomeration of Darjeeling. This new first flush, rich in silver tips with more floral notes and more body than last year's! Each invoice we cupped from Puttabong this season was invariably delightful. A somewhat finer plucking than last year's, the 2007 is bright and beautiful with sweet, floral notes that linger on the palate.
Recommendations: Use 1 level tsp. per 6 oz. cup; heat fresh water to a roaring boil; let steep for 2.5 - 3 min.
